The existing regeneration gas heater has a major issue of very low thermal performance, for the required (design) duty to heat regeneration gas from 120oF to 500oF, the factual is only from 120oF to max 275oF by the same condition of hot oil (P, T, Flow).
CONTRACTOR indicates and suspected failure or damage in the Sheel-side. The hypothetical root cause due to the HE type BFU, as well as high-pressure gas in the shell, was the event in which high-pressure drop across these long baffles, causing bending and loss-of-sealing between shell-pass, hence the cold-gas inlet (bottom) not fully routing to right-side of the shell first then to the left-upper shell, but instead going directly upward from bottom to leakage-baffle to outlet nozzle without sufficient heat-transfer because the regeneration gas flow to E-408 shall be 8 mmscfd instead of 6.11 mmscfd. CONTRACTOR chooses the design of new heater E-408B/C.
